FAQ s

Generally

Time to Help strives to provide assistance where aid is urgently needed and where resources can be used efficiently. A key focus is on Africa. However, there are also aid projects in the Middle East, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Since the 2021 flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, we have been particularly committed to initiating more aid projects in Germany and supporting people in need.

Time to Help is an international humanitarian aid organization. Our goal is to sustainably improve the living conditions of those in need. We are currently pursuing this goal through the construction of water wells, cataract surgeries, food aid, refugee assistance, and emergency relief in crisis situations. You can find more information about our projects on the respective information pages.

All of our projects are distinguished by the fact that we work with dedicated, local partners. Our partners understand the needs of the people and the local conditions much better than we do and can therefore help us implement our projects as efficiently and effectively as possible. You can find an overview of our partners here.

Time to Help has several partner offices in other countries, including the UK, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ethiopia. Although we maintain regular contact with the partner offices, they all operate as individual organizations.

Water Fountain

Depending on the location of the water well, there are two different construction methods that differ in their financial outlay:

  • Well with manual pump (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Chad, Togo, Cameroon): 500€
  • Wells with electric pumps (Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo): 4.100€

Further information on the different types of fountains can be found here.

It is currently possible to have water wells built in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Togo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Tanzania and Chad.

It is possible to have a say in which country the water well should be built. We reserve the right to select the exact location, as we work with local partners who are best placed to assess the needs.

It typically takes X months from donation to completion. However, delays may occasionally occur due to unforeseen problems or difficulties on site.

In principle, we can organize participation in the inauguration ceremony for your water well. However, the local security situation must always be taken into account. According to the German Federal Foreign Office, travel to countries such as Chad or Ethiopia is either discouraged or prohibited. Therefore, the location of the water well is crucial for participation in the opening ceremony. Donors must cover their own travel costs.

Cataract

The cost of cataract surgery is €100.

We currently organize cataract surgeries in Mali, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Senegal, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.

People in need, regardless of age, gender or ethnicity, who suffer from cataracts are operated on.

No, due to data protection regulations, we cannot share patient information. However, we would be happy to issue you with a general donation certificate. Please contact us for details.

Refugee aid

Our aid projects are mainly carried out in Germany and Greece.

We are active in various projects. These include direct financial support for destitute refugees, support for our partner organization in Greece, regular food donations, and, when needed, the collection of in-kind donations. Finally, one project covers the educational costs of refugee students. You can find out more about our refugee aid projects here.

We primarily support politically persecuted people from Turkey. Most of them are associated with the Hizmet movement, which is also known in Germany as the Gülen movement. Compared to other persecuted people, there is little knowledge about this group of persecuted people in Germany. We want to close this gap. In recent years, however, we have repeatedly supported refugees from very different backgrounds: most recently, for example, refugees from Ukraine.

Food aid (general)

Our general food aid is currently being provided primarily in Greece. Trucks with food parcels are regularly sent there, which are then distributed to refugees in need. One food parcel contains enough non-perishable food to support a family for several weeks.

Ramadan food aid

Our aid projects are mainly carried out in Germany and Greece.

The packages will be distributed in the countries where we work with local partners. Our partner countries in 2023 include Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Yemen.

The packages are distributed to those in need regardless of their ethnicity, origin or religious affiliation.

The food packages are assembled in the countries where they are distributed. This allows the contents to be tailored to the needs of the local people and strengthens the local economy. This means that the contents may vary from country to country. Nevertheless, care is taken to ensure that primarily long-lasting staple food items are distributed.

Food aid Kurban

The price for a kurban donation is a flat rate of 120 €.

This amount consists of organizational costs, the work involved, and the purchase of the animal. Since we provide food aid for Kurban in various countries and purchase the cattle locally, the prices for the animals can vary: In some places, a sacrificial animal costs less than €120.00, while in others, it costs more than €120.00. However, we set this fixed price of €120.00 to ensure that the donations can be distributed fairly in the countries.

The packages are distributed in our partner countries, where we work with local partners. Our partner countries included Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Benin, Central Africa, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Malawi, the Philippines, Pakistan, Yemen, and Greece.

The meat goes to people in need regardless of their ethnicity, origin, or religious affiliation. One package contains approximately 6-7 kg of meat, enough to feed a family for a long time.

  • Our local cooperation partner will determine centers within the country where the ritual slaughter will take place.
  • Then the needy and institutions such as orphanages are identified that will benefit from the donations.
  • Suitable animals are selected from the surrounding farms and villages.
  • Agreements are made with local slaughterhouses and operating butchers.
  • The teams that will ensure the smooth running of the campaign will be determined.
  • The transport of animals from farms and villages to slaughterhouses is organized.
  • On the Eid al-Fitr itself, the animals are slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines, and the meat is divided fairly. Immediately afterward, the meat is packed into parcels and loaded onto waiting trucks.
  • Then the distribution of the packages to the pre-selected needy people and institutions begins. This all happens within a few hours to ensure the quality and freshness of the meat.

Emergency aid

Natural disasters or armed conflicts often strike people completely unexpectedly and have devastating consequences. They are cut off from all infrastructure and supplies, lose their homes, and in the worst cases, even lose their lives. We provide assistance in disaster situations and ensure that donations reach where they are most urgently needed.

The aid we provide must be tailored to the situation and local circumstances. We generally collect monetary donations in an emergency fund. In the event of a disaster, this gives us quick access to financial resources and allows us to act and provide immediate assistance.

The money is forwarded to organizations actively providing assistance at the scene of the disaster. In some cases, donations in kind are also needed, which we organize and send. In the case of the flood disaster in Germany, our volunteer members helped directly on the ground.

Most recently, emergency aid was provided in the following areas:

  • Albania: after the earthquake in November 2019
  • Lebanon: after the explosion in Beirut in August 2020
  • Germany: after the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley in July 2021
  • Ukraine: after the war of aggression in February 2022
  • Türkiye and Syria: after the earthquake in February 2023
